Quarantine is a horror film that brings The Blair Witch Project and Dawn Of the Dead into one exciting movie. The movie starts with Angela Vidal (Jennifer Carpenter, The Exorcism of Emily Rose) and her camera man Scott Percival (Steve Harris) standing in front of a fire station the place for their report. For their report Angela followed two of the fireman working at the station Jay (Johnathon Schaech) and Fletcher (Jay Hernandez, Lakeview Terrace). That night after a long day of interviewing the fireman and being flashed by one in the shower, Angela and Scott were filming outside the dorms where the fireman slept, they got the call they were waiting for.
Rushing to the place of the call Angela waits in the back of the fire truck to the place of emergency. They arrive at an old apartment building where something strange was starting to unfold. They followed two officers James and Danny up the stairs to the room where people heard screaming. The lady living there Ms. Espinoza didn’t looked right. She wouldn’t respond to the officers or the firemen, she was foaming at the mouth, and oh yeah she bit James in the neck injuring him badly. Fletcher pins down Ms. Espinoza, while the others takes James down stairs. There isn’t a doctor in the house, but they do have a veterinarian.
While attending to the wound officer, Fletcher fell from the floor of Ms. Espinoza. He was also bitten and broke his leg during the fall. Danny and Jake head back upstairs to try and stop Ms. Espinoza. They found the maid dead in her room. When Ms.Espinoza appeared she was drenched in blood. She charged at Danny and Jake, when Danny finally shot her down.
That’s only the beginning. When Danny and Jake came back down stairs all the windows and the main entrance were covered and blocked off from the outside. It turns out that the government quarantined the building to keep the disease from getting out. Lawrence (Greg Germann, Bolt) the veterinarian identified the disease as rabies. The CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) came in to take a brain sample to determine if the person has rabies. While the CDC crew were taking samples Fletcher bite one of the CDC members. Slowly one by one is bitten. Will Angela and the rest of the survivors run upstairs to a room. The apartment manager Yuri tells them there is a tunnel in the basement to lead them out of the building. Will Angela and Scott make it out? They found the keys to the basement door. The only thing standing between them and freedom is a building full of mindless rabies infected zombies.
The way this movie is filmed is the same way as Cloverfield and The Blair Witch Project. Only being able to see what the cameraman can see adds to the suspense. Although it did get annoying sometimes. Towards the end of the movie the light of the camera kept flickering on and off. Made hard to see what was happening. Jennifer Carpenter was outstanding in this movie. Throughout the movie she slowly becomes more frantic hardly able to keep herself together. This is the second movie she starred in that I liked (the other being The Exorcism of Emily Rose).
This movie is good. If you like The Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield then you will like this movie. It had good acting and a good story. It was slow at the beginning, but when they entered the apartment building that’s when it’s makes people stay on the edge of their seats. This movie – 4.5 out of 5.
